The miniature poodle goes through thick and thin with his owner and does not leave his side. The smart four-legged friend is intelligent, funny and an ideal family dog. He loves exercise, a species-appropriate activity as well as an extensive cuddle hour on the sofa. Since he always wants to please his caregivers, he is obedient and extraordinarily amiable.
A real charmer from France
As with so many dog breeds, the exact origin of the Poodle is unknown: What is certain, however, is that the breed comes from France, where Poodles are called Caniche. In addition to the Miniature Poodle, there are Large Poodles, The exact origin of the Small Poodle and Toy Poodle. They differ from each other only by their size. The Miniature Poodle breed was recognized in 1930.
Originally, the poodle was an eager hunting dog that was used to hunt ducks, partridges and pheasants. It is closely related to the French water dog, the Barbet, also a passionate hunter. In the 19th century, the poodle was “ennobled”, so to speak: as a playful and shrewd society dog, it found access to many European courts. The miniature poodle became the star in the circus ring: his eagerness to learn, his talent for small tricks and his probably often unintentional comedy earned him enthusiastic applause under the circus dome again and again.
The character of the Miniature Poodle
The miniature poodle is by no means just a clown: he has a high level of social competence and is extremely sensitive. For this reason, he is often trained as a therapy dog and is out and about in schools or other institutions. He also completes missions as a rescue dog. The loyal companion gets along wonderfully with children, because he is playful, but at the same time calm, patient and balanced. He behaves very affectionately towards his family and is therefore very suitable as a family dog. And he always makes his owners laugh: with his intelligence, his shrewdness and acrobatic tricks.

Education and keeping of the Miniature Poodle
The miniature poodle is very obedient and eager to learn by nature and wants to please its owner. This makes training easy. Nevertheless, you should deal with him consistently as a puppy. The little clown doesn’t need a lot of space, but enough exercise and physical and mental activity: He loves water and long walks. His artistic talent comes into its own in dog sports such as dog dance, agility or mobyclass. You can also teach him little dog tricks such as pawing or making a man at home. Thanks to their beautiful fur and proud attitude, poodles are among the most popular show dogs.
Caring for the Miniature Poodle
The only thing that is complex in keeping this dog breed is the grooming: The coat should be thoroughly combed several times a week and shorn every six to eight weeks, as it is constantly growing back. The big advantage: The Miniature Poodle does not lose any hair. Get him used to the brushing procedure as a puppy, which can become a familiar ritual between dog and owner.
